Joe Hutchinson, 72, of Woodbine, Ga., passed away peacefully after a very brief stay at Hospice of Golden Isles. Joe Nathan Hutchinson was born Dec. 9, 1951, to the late Reuben and Helen Ella Holmes Hutchinson. He attended the public schools of Camden County and graduated from Ralph J. Bunche High School in 1970.
After graduating from high school, he continued his education at Savannah Technical School in Savannah, Ga. Joe accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the Rev. G.M. Mizell. He was a faithful Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church member under the Rev. Dr. Michael A. Holmes until his passing. On Dec. 31, 1971, Joe married his soulmate, Cynthia Marie Hall, of Fernandina Beach, Fla. Four children were born into this union: Tamaqua, LaKita, Erika and Erik.
Joe was employed at St. Vincent's Medical Center as a transporter, Terminal Bag as a baler for 15 years, and Gilman/Durango Paper for 15 years. After the closure of the paper mill, he secured employment at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base. He began working for the contractor Lady Debra, later known as Eastern Maintenance. In 2009, Joe retired from Eastern Maintenance as a custodian supervisor. Joe loved his wife, family, and especially his grandchildren. Until his health started declining, he loved traveling and visiting different festivals and craft shows. Joe was passionate about gardening, woodworking, and unique hand-crafted clocks.
