On Tuesday, July 22, 2024, Cathleen A. London Gantt, transitioned from this life to her eternal home in glory. She was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Flagler, Fla., to the late Reverend Darris London and Mother Lovie Overstreet Mason. She attended Ralph J. Bunche High School in Woodbine and the Adult Education Center in Florida, where she completed her formal education. She worked for Gilman Paper Company Kraft Bag Division for many years until the company relocated. She then worked at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base as a food service manager. Cathleen Gantt was a faithful member of the Wheeler Street Church of God and Georgia Avenue Church of God (then Railroad Avenue), where she served as a devoted Sunday School teacher, youth choir director and evangelist.
Her life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her deep love for people and her devotion to the Word of God. In 1995, she answered the call to pastor and started Solid Rock Church of God in Statesboro, Ga. Despite a challenging schedule, Pastor Gantt found time to share the message of Jesus visiting homes, prisons, nursing homes and volunteer services at the Georgia Regional Hospital in Statesboro, Ga. She was known for her ability to connect with people from all walks of life, offering solace, guidance and inspiration. Her faith in God and love of people were the cornerstones of how she lived her life.
Throughout her life, she was a beacon of hope and a source of strength for her family and the community she served. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her and be touched by her ministry. As the mother of nine children, she demonstrated boundless love, wisdom and guidance. She dedicated herself to nurturing her family, instilling in them the values of faith, compassion and integrity. They are a living testament carrying forward her legacy of faith and service.
In her passing, Pastor Gantt is preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Dorris London and Lovie Overstreet Mason; siblings, Willie London, Ethel Butler, Vera Mason Porter and Frank Mason; and children, Joseph P. Gantt, Cyrus Gantt, Adrian Gantt and Joseph "Wanda" Gantt (stepson). She is survived by her devoted children, Mr. Kelvin Myers and Evangelist Zaidy (Janice) Gantt, Priscilla Gantt, Pamela Gantt, Tamara Robinson, Althea Robinson (Mitchel) and Pastor Lenora Hope White (stepdaughter); siblings, Johnny (Verdie) London, George (Vickie) Jackson, Grady (Shawanda) Mason, Frederick (Deborah) Mason and Gloria Jean Mason; sister-in-law, Loretta London; 23 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the many others who called her Mom and Godmother.
Her life was a living testimony to the power of faith, hope and love. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
